SEPM is a member society of the
American Geological Institute (AGI).
This organization, located in Virginia, near Washington D.C. is a nonprofit federation of
49 geoscientific and professional associations
that represents more than 120,000 geologists, geophysicists, and other earth scientists. Founded in 1948, AGI provides information services to geoscientists, serves as a voice of shared interests in our profession, plays a major role in strengthening geoscience education, and strives to increase public awareness of the vital role the geosciences play in society's use of resources, resilience to natural hazards, and the health of the environment.
AGI does not have indivudal members but only organizations as members and it helps SEPM be involved at many levels in areas such as public policy, K-12 geoscience education and others that are ancillary to SEPM's main mission. AGI through its website has several items of high value to the SEPM community.
