Exxon Core Data Copyright Permission Rules

Permissions for content on https://sepm.org/exxon

  1. For content specifically identified with an AAPG copyright you must contact AAPG for any permissions www.aapg.org 
  2. All other content is under SEPM copyright and usage must follow these rules.
    1. Go to https://marketplace.copyright.com/rs-ui-web/mp  for any needed official permissions.  When there use this input information:
      1. Publication Title = ExxonMobil-SEPM Core Data
      2. Article Title = main core location (i.e. Salt Marsh 1 or Shootaring Canyon 1, etc.)
      3. Figures = individual image content using filename as identifier
    2. Any use of the content must reference the source of the content.
      1. Publication Title = ExxonMobil-SEPM Core Data
      2. Article Title = main core location (i.e. Salt Marsh 1)
      3. Figures = individual image content using filename as identifier.  
      4. The URL of the specific data- such as https://sepm.org/exxon/morrison/salt-wash-1 or the DOI when that is provided.
    3. Uses that do not require permission:
      1. Content can be downloaded and presented in classes for educational purposes at accredited institutions as long as the content is not publicly published or made available on a public database.
      2. Content can be downloaded and presented in meetings or conferences as long as the content is not published or made available on a public database.
      3. Content may be downloaded for research purposes.  If the research results in a publication then it shall follow 2.d.ii below.
      4. Content can be downloaded and presented or reproduced for intra-company (e.g. petroleum companies, service companies, consultancies, etc.) usage (internal reports, training or research) as long as the content is not published or distributed outside the company. Publication or distribution outside the company shall follow 2.d.i or 2.d.ii as applicable).
    4. Uses that generally  require permission:
      1. Articles, images, or data that reproduce any of the content for specific re-numeration or compensation via a training course, publication, or other material will need specific permission from SEPM and may incur a royalty fee.
      2. Articles in journals or chapters in books that reproduce any of the content whether Open Access, Hybrid Access, or Subscription Access must reference the source of the content (2.b.) and the copyright remains with SEPM.  Copyright permissions shall follow those on SEPM Publications Permissions
